‘Rocky Road’ Weymouth College Acoustic Summer Tour

Dynamic Dolphin Productions – a production company formed by Level 3 Music students at Weymouth College – have joined forces with the Weymouth College Student Union to offer ‘Rocky Road’ – the Weymouth College Acoustic Summer Tour 2016. The six venue tour will feature an exciting range of acoustic flavoured original music and cover versions from artists ranging from Stevie Wonder to Jefferson Airplane!

Tickets are available on the door or in advance from The Bay Theatre Box Office (01305 208702) priced at £5.00 for standard, and £3.50 for concessions.

Welcome

Come and create with professional working miliner Chloe Scrivener your own draped hat or headpiece using fabric. Whether it be a more graphic drape or a more fluid sculptural effect you desire you will be encouraged to experiment with playing with fabric to create something completely unique.

You will learn how to; Create a shape from a pre blocked buckram shape (a Millinery Foundation Material). Experiment with draping fabric on to the base shape according to your design. Attach and sew draped fabric over a 3-dimensional form. Finish your hat/headpiece using traditional Millinery techniques.

We are really lucky to have James Meiklejohn teaching on various courses at the centre....here's a bit about him .......

James studied Illustration at Brighton University where his lecturers included Raymond Briggs( The Snowman) and later studied life and portrait painting at Heatherley School of Fine Art, Chelsea. His portraits have been exhibited in the BP Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery, London and the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. He has exhibited his work in galleries throughout the UK and in Europe.

Welcome to the Dorset Centre for the Creative Arts (DCCA) based in Poundbury, Dorchester. Thank you for joining us on what we hope will be a new exciting adventure, which ultimately will benefit the community in all sorts of different ways. Time has simply flown by since our fantastic launch in October and I am excited to say many of our courses will be starting in the first week of November, as in next week will be the very FIRST week of Master classes at DCCA!

For all those lucky enough to have enrolled on one of the courses, the team very much look forward to meeting you over the next couple of weeks and trust you will have a fun and fulfilling experience.  The artists really are a very talented bunch and we are looking forward to witnessing your creative endeavours.

Residents in Dorset will soon be able to explore their creative flair with a new centre opening its doors in Poundbury.

The Dorset Centre for the Creative Arts situated at Parkway Farm Business Park houses the highly successful Stonemasonry department of Weymouth College and will now be opening its doors to the public by offering a range of unique masterclasses.

The Centre will offer a quality experience for those interested in the creative arts. Taught by industry experts including artists and craft specialists, the centre will offer masterclasses and specialist qualifications with an opportunity to develop creative skills and knowledge in a relaxed environment.

Dorset residents are being encouraged to attend the Centre’s free launch event on Saturday 3rd October between 9.00am and 3.00pm. Visitors will be able to see the centre and its facilities, get involved in taster activities, see demonstrations and find out more about the new masterclasses on offer. It’s a real opportunity to talk to some of the artists and to see the wide variety of activity that’s available right on the doorstep.
