Course start date: 6th February 2018
9:30 am - 1:30 pm
|Lecture Theatre||Richard Jeffrey|
Join photographer Richard Jeffery for a half day workshop introducing basic studio lighting techniques and equipment handling. This session, the first of a series, is aimed at photographers who want to explore studio photography using continuous or flash lighting. It is would be ideal for anyone considering buying their own lighting equipment, or thinking about renting studio time. The workshop would be good grounding for any type of studio work including still life or product, but will focus on portraiture, using students as models.
We will cover a number of simple standard lighting arrangements using a minimum of equipment, and explore ways to document these set ups to make them easy to reproduce. We hope to run further workshops working with multiple lights. You will ideally have a DSLR and intermediate or higher camera skills: comfortable or aware of managing exposure using ISO, shutter speed and aperture controls. However, managing exposure in a studio environment is an excellent way to consolidate these skills, and there is much more to studio work than understanding camera settings, so don’t be put off if your understanding of these controls is a little hazy.
